Overview

The Opticell is packaged in a rugged transit case.  It incorporates a rechargeable battery, and ships with a compact battery charger.  When fully charged, the battery will power the unit for long enough to perform approximately 10 complete test cycles.

Operating the Opticell is as simple as opening the case and pressing the Run switch.  The Opticell turns on and begins testing all available wireless data networks.  After the 90 second initialization completes, you have the opportunity to enter a Site ID which you can use to keep track of where individual tests were performed.  You enter the Site ID using the arrow keys next to the display.  If you do not enter a Site ID the default Site ID will be used automatically after 60 seconds.  Depending on how your unit is configured, you may also have the opportunity to select a test type.  Like the Site ID, if you do not choose a test type, the default will be used automatically.

The test sequence takes around 10 minutes.  During the test sequence, basic status and progress information is displayed on the built-in screen.  When all tests are complete, the results are packaged and emailed to registered users as well as uploaded to this web site for future review and analysis.

First, a basic scan for available data networks is performed.

Next, for each available data network a comprehensive series of performance tests is performed.

The resulting data network quality scores are then displayed both graphically and numerically.

The recommended data network is displayed.  Recommendations are based entirely on quality scores.

Finally, the Opticell turns itself off, and is immediatelly ready for another test.
